Kim Balentine

Acrylics & Watercolors

Artist Bio.

Kim Balentine was born in Raleigh, North Carolina. She studied fine art at ASU and later she obtain her Juris Doctorate. The legal career was short as she married a Brit and moved to England where she studied painting with Jen Rossi on the Isle of Wight. She is thrilled to have been the Feature artist in the 2001Tall Ship Race in Cowes, Isle of Wight. Kim was also recognized in the September 2016 issue of Southwest Art Magazine as one of the national emerging artist. She is also a member of OCPA (Online Catalog of Professional Artist).

Kim’s travels and passion for color have helped establish her style. She loves to celebrate the human, the marks people make on the world. Treasure the local, the small-scale, the eccentric and the ordinary. She finds beauty in some battered old porch or cluttered, human- scale storefront, and documenting a memory.

Artist Statement

I am a North Carolina artist whose aesthetic is inspired by adventure and travel to foreign coastlines and influenced by art history.

As my native city Raleigh changes and grows, I love to paint the memories of the past as well as embrace the future. Many of my paintings are iconic buildings, such as Players Retreat, Char Grill, or memories of local favorites that evoke a sense of nostalgia.

Abstract pieces allow me to explore emotions, intuition, current events and so much more.

Expression, energy, color and movement are important aspects of my work. I primarily worked in acrylic paint but use other mediums such as oil pastel, conte, and charcoal to allow for a greater range of subtlety. A little whimsy appears when I use watercolor on rag paper, giving them a free flowing feel of delight.
